‘Rabindranath ka Kathaharu’ (रविन्द्रनाथ का कथाहरु) is a collection of 15 short stories by Rabindranath Tagore from his book Golpoguccho, translated into Nepali by author Suraj Sharma from Darjeeling.
While Tagore’s masterpieces have captivated readers worldwide, his Bengali literary works have been famous mostly for the Bengali readers. Non-Bengali readers like Nepali have not been exposed much to Tagore’s Bengali literatures.
Now, for the very first time, his literary works is published in Nepali language. Suraj Sharma, who studied Bengali at Darjeeling Government High School, grew up loving Bengali literature and wants his people to be able to read them in their own language.
He is one of the few Nepali writers who not only translates Bengali literature into Nepali but translates Nepali literature into Bengali as well. Suraj Sharma’s intention is to introduce great works from both languages to both the communities.
With ‘Rabindranath ka Kathaharu’ (रविन्द्रनाथ का कथाहरु), Sharma aims to create a literary bridge between these two cultures. He had been working on the project to translate Rabindranath Tagore Bengali stories into Nepali right after the release of his book ‘Sarat Chandra ka Kathaharu’ which is a translation of Bengali short stories by the famous Bengali writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay.
